The Towulade of Akinale in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, has passed away at the age of 79. Oba Ogunleye, a distinguished journalist with experience at the old Daily Times of Nigeria and retired as the General Manager, Public Relations of the defunct Nigeria Airways, was first appointed as the Baale of Akinale in 2004 by former Governor Gbenga Daniel. He was later elevated to the position of Oba in 2006 during the same administration.
According to sources close to the late monarch, Oba Ogunleye had been unwell for some time and was recently admitted to St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he passed away on Wednesday afternoon. The source also revealed that the royal father, who had just completed his PhD in law and was preparing for his graduation in a few weeks, succumbed to his illness.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and community of the Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, as we pray for the repose of his soul,” the source expressed.
