Immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan says President Bola Tinubu has abandoned governance and focusing attention on how to secure a second term in office.
Speaking with TheScrutinyNG, Ologbondiyan said his expectations is that any president elected for a four-year term should use the first three years to work while the fourth year should be used for electioneering campaign.
“We are talking about election in just one year of a four-year term, I might think it is derived from the feelings that this current government has no plans to do anything and are only interested in election. No nation can run on the basis of election year in, year out”.
“I remembered that former president Olusegun Obasanjo in the second year of first term had to come out and pleaded that he should be allowed to do his work. The duty of a politician is to politik. So, if he is given a chance, he will engage in politics from the beginning of a four-year term till the end”.
“But my expectations of any president who has come to work in the interest of the citizenry is to create time to do the work that he has been elected for in the space of two or three years before election will begin”.
“As you can see now, from day one of this government, it’s all about what will happen in 2027. It is about nobody can defeat Bola Tinubu in 2027. Everything is about he must run for two terms. The one that he has been elected to do now, where is the work?”.
On claims by some Nigerians that the Labour Party has dislodged the PDP as the major opposition party, Ologbondiyan said “So, I am not engaging in the debate of which political party is the major opposition party today in Nigeria”.
“If you go to the national assembly and you take the number of people who are elected by various parties in the 2023 general elections, you will know which party is the major opposition party to the APC” .
