Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has pledged seven key intervention in Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil to boost educational development.
The sumptuous offer by the Chancellor of the Science based tertiary institution came barely a week he paid N100M upfront to a Distrinution company to restore electricity to the state owned citadel of learning.
A press statement by the vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai that was made available to newsmen in Kano on Thursday said the intervention was sequel to formal request by the University management team for his support during a thank you visit to his Lagos office on Wednesday.
Prof Yakasai who listed areas of intervention in the statement said Aliko Dangote pledged to construct a befitting Senate Building for the institution, construction of 3 nos additional students’ hostel blocks, and construction of 10 nos senior academic staff accommodation.
Other key areas, Dangote has offered to intervene included plan to upgrade the University’s water treatment plant to address the University’s water supply issues, and as well bankroll the conduct of the University’s 5th Convocation Ceremony.
The vice Chancellor disclosed that the Africa richest man further reiterated its plans to provide providing a sustainable energy solution to the University’s electricity supply problem, while he also pledged to provide official vehicles to University’s Principal Officers.
Prof. Yakasai press statement reads in parts: “the Principal Officers of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai have paid a courtesy visit to the University’s Chancellor, Alhaji Aliko Dangote at his office in Lagos on the 10th of July 2024.”
He stressed that “The visit became imperative in order to show appreciation to the Chancellor for his intervention in paying the sum of One Hundred Million (N 100,000,000) upfront as part of KEDCO electricity Bill.”
The payment was made through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which facilitated the immediate reconnection of the University with electricity supply.
In the course of the visit, the University management presented to the Chancellor some pressing issues facing the University. In light of this, the Chancellor made the following additional pledges
