A section of a two-storey residential building in Abuja collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping several people in the rubble.
The building, located beside the well-known Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly a hotel named Al-Hilal. It later became a hospital before being converted into a residential apartment.
Emergency responders and security personnel were on the scene, but rescue efforts were delayed as the necessary cranes had not yet arrived by 8:45 am, nearly two hours after the collapse.
Reports indicate that two individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own.
One of the survivors, who wished to remain anonymous, said she woke up around 7 a.m. and, upon hearing cracking sounds after stepping outside, quickly fled the building.
