Rights activist and Convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has urged protesters to persist with the nationwide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
This call for continuation comes after Human Rights Lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa SAN, a prominent figure with the Take It Back Movement, advised an immediate suspension of the protests. Adegboruwa had expressed regret over the deaths and losses incurred during the demonstrations, emphasising that such outcomes were not the protests’ intended goals.
In a statement sent to TheScrutiny, Adegboruwa urged, “I appeal to the protesters to withdraw themselves from their various protest grounds and to suspend the protests immediately and indefinitely, in order to give room for meaningful dialogue and engagement with the government.”
Responding to the call for suspension, Sowore took to his X page (formerly Twitter) to encourage continued action.
“Good day fellow conscious citizens. Thank you all for staying the course in the last 24 hours since the commencement of the #endbadgovernanceinnigeria REVOLT,” Sowore stated.
Sowore emphasised the need to intensify the protests, saying, “Note: the daily barricades, marches, rallies, and people’s congresses should be intensified.”
He also urged those unable to participate in street protests to engage in pot-and-pan protests from home.
“Grab your pots & pans now and start banging them on your streets; take them with you to the roadside. Bang, bang, bang! #revolutions are ‘the festivals of the oppressed and the exploited!’”
Sowore’s call reflects a commitment to maintaining the momentum of the protests despite calls for a pause.
