A combined team of security operatives conducted a show of force in Rivers State on Saturday.
While protests in some states remained relatively peaceful, Northern states like Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Yobe experienced disruptions with reports of looting and vandalism. Curfews were enforced, and security was heightened on the second day of the demonstrations.
In Rivers State, officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit, identifiable by their red headgear, arrived at Pleasure Park where they joined regular police. The security forces briefly blocked the road, holding their weapons and impeding movement in a visible display of authority.
Their presence intimidated some protesters, leading to a decrease in visible demonstrations. As the security forces passed by, some protesters, holding placards, were dissuaded from continuing their protest.
“Nah Una we dey fight for (We are fighting for you too)” some demonstrators remarked to the security personnel as they drove past.
