Dr. Joe Odumakin, President, Oluyinka Odumakin Foundation has commended peaceful protesters across the country who are demanding an end to bad governance in Nigeria.
In a statement titled ‘A Letter to the People on the End Bad Governance Protest’ which she personally signed, Odumakin also warned those taking advantage of the protest to loot and destroy properties to destroy to desist.
While calling on government at all levels to listen to the demands of the people, she enjoined security operatives to respect the rights of the protesters.
Tne full statement reads “Thank you Nigerians for standing up against oppression and demanding a better future for our nation. Your voices are being heard.Those responsible for the looting and wanton destruction of lives and property should stop their nefarious activities”.
“Those responsible for the threat against Igbos in Lagos are urged to desist from such divisive rhetorics. Spreading of ethnic hatred, threats and intimidation are all diversionary tactics deployed by a colourless clique in our society”.
“Such antiquated antics cannot work among a people united by political alienation and poverty.
Let us work towards building a more inclusive Nigeria, where every individual can live without fear of persecution or discrimination based on primordial sentiments. Our diversity remains our strength and justifies why Nigeria has been the champion of peace and understanding continentally and globally”.
“Security operatives should realize that they remain accountable and must adhere to the letters of our constitution which provide for respect for fundamental human rights”.
“We urge leaders of all tiers and arms of Government to listen to the demands of the citizens and take concrete steps to address the issues of extreme poverty and bad governance. The people have spoken, and it’s time for positive changes to be effected”.
