After forty member of Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria died in accident on Sunday while traveling to celebrate the 2024 Id el Maulud, President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to members and leaders of the group.
Tinubu conveyed his sympathies in a statement signed on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu Mourns 40 Participants Killed in Auto Crash’.
The Muslim worshippers were travelling from Kwandari in Plateau State to Saminaka, Kaduna State, for a celebratory event to mark Eid-el-Maulud — Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
However, their bus collided with an oncoming truck near the town of Lere, an organiser of the Eid celebration reported.
Several others were injured and are receiving treatment.
Tinubu “extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, as well as to the governments of Kaduna and Plateau states,” said Onanuga.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
The President has also directed the Federal Road Safety Commission to enhance highway monitoring and reduce the number of road accidents nationwide.
