Former National Assembly member, Hon. Farouk Mohammed Lawan, has been released from Kuje Custodial Centre after serving his sentence.

In a statement released shortly after his release, Lawan expressed deep gratitude to Allah SWT for seeing him through his trial and thanked his family and friends for their unwavering support.

“Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah,” the statement began, emphasising his profound thanks to the Almighty.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” Lawan continued, “as I step out of Kuje Custodial Centre, with a heart full of gratitude to Allah SWT for seeing me through this trial.”

Lawan’s release comes after he served a sentence for a corruption conviction related to his time in the National Assembly.

Though the specifics of the case were not mentioned in his statement, it is widely understood that he was found guilty of accepting bribes in exchange for favorable legislation.

Despite his past legal troubles, Lawan’s statement conveyed a positive outlook.

He described himself as being “alive and in good health and high spirits” to be reunited with his family, friends, and associates.

“I don’t take that for granted,” he added, acknowledging the significance of his newfound freedom.

Lawan’s statement concluded with a heartfelt message of appreciation for those who stood by him during his imprisonment.

“I remain grateful and indebted to my family and friends who stood by me through this particularly trying phase of my life,” he wrote. “May Allah SWT bless you.”

While the public awaits further details about Lawan’s plans for the future, his release from Kuje Custodial Centre marks a significant moment in his life.

His statement highlights his faith and the importance of personal support during challenging times.
