The management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has stated that no lives were lost in the fire incident reported at the APMT Apapa Terminal on Saturday.

In a statement on Saturday, the NPA disclosed that the fire was professionally extinguished by the agency’s firemen with the assistance of other sister agencies at the port.

The fire erupted from one of the APMT cranes at the Apapa terminal on Saturday but was brought under control before any damage could be done to other facilities at the port.

The NPA spokesperson, Ikechukwu Onyemekara, while expressing his appreciation to the NPA firemen for their professionalism, thanked God that no lives were lost in the incident, “nor were any other facilities affected by the fire before it was stopped.”

Ikechukwu assured port users and other stakeholders that the current management of the NPA, led by Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, would continue to prioritise the safety of lives and property in Nigerian ports.

He added that the agency is also working to enhance the ease of doing business in the ports.
