The Nigerian military Joint Task Force (Northwest) has addressed recent reports regarding an alleged bombing of civilian structures by a military fighter jet in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a statement on Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, clarified that all military actions are based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions.
He emphasised the importance of these operations, especially when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organisation, to ensure precision and safeguard civilian lives.
Abdullahi urged the public to rely only on confirmed information to avoid the spread of misinformation, which could lead to unnecessary panic.
He further stated that the targets hit near Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa had been positively identified as linked to the Lakurawa group, reinforcing the legitimacy of the military’s actions in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.
The statement also cautioned against disinformation campaigns that could undermine military efforts.
