Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has set lofty targets towards deepening development at the nation’s capital.
In his new year message, the former Rivers State governor urged the FCT residents to embrace 2025 with optimism and join efforts to transform the FCT into a world-class capital.
Wike expressed gratitude for residents’ cooperation in 2024 and outlined the administration’s plans for the new year, anchored on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Together, we can achieve the collective dream of a thriving and prosperous FCT by working in unity and cooperation,” Wike said, urging residents to support ongoing developmental efforts.
Describing 2024 as a remarkable year for the FCT, Wike highlighted significant achievements that have laid the foundation for sustained development:
Infrastructure: Construction of urban and rural roads to improve connectivity and foster economic activities in underserved areas.
Education: Rehabilitation of schools to create conducive learning environments for children.
Security: Provision of over 100 vehicles to security agencies and the implementation of innovative strategies, resulting in safer communities.
Governance: Creation of the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development to enhance administrative efficiency and responsiveness.
Economic Growth: Attracting local and foreign investments through improved infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.
Wike, however, set forth an ambitious roadmap for 2025, emphasizing continuity and expansion in critical sectors:
Infrastructure: Sustained investment in road networks and other developmental projects to drive economic growth.
Healthcare, education and agriculture: Enhancing access to essential services for all residents.
Transportation: Reforms through private sector participation to address mobility challenges in the FCT.
Youth Empowerment: Expanding employment programs to harness the potential of young people.
Tourism and Security: Unlocking the FCT’s tourism potential and further enhancing public safety.
The minister emphasised the importance of civic responsibilities, urging residents to fulfill their tax obligations to support the administration’s development agenda.
“Let us embrace 2025 with hope and resolve. May this year bring us closer to realising our collective vision for a Federal Capital Territory that reflects the highest ideals of progress and unity,” Wike concluded.
Wishing all residents a happy New Year, the minister prayed for continued peace and prosperity in the FCT and Nigeria.
