Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has expelled the female student who allegedly bit a lecturer after he interrupted her TikTok video. The university’s decision follows an investigation by the Student Disciplinary Committee, which found her guilty of gross misconduct and violating the institution’s disciplinary regulations.
The incident, which occurred at the Faculty of Arts, sparked widespread outrage after photos of the lecturer’s bite injuries circulated on social media. According to reports, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, was attempting to pass by when he tapped the student on the shoulder to get her attention. This led to a verbal altercation, which escalated when the student bit him on both arms.
The university has now taken swift action, releasing an official statement confirming her expulsion.
“The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, which was found to be gross misconduct and a violation of the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR),” the statement read.
“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled, and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect.”
The university directed the student to vacate the premises immediately and return any university property in her possession.
