In honour of 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu is slated to deliver an address at a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Wednesday.

Additionally, the president will officiate the inauguration of the National Assembly Library, which bears his name. This revelation was made by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, on Tuesday.

Furthermore, according to a statement released by the National Assembly management on Monday night, former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, is anticipated to deliver a discourse titled “Reflections on the journey to democracy.”

The joint session will also be graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Among the dignitaries expected at the gathering are Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and governor of Kwara State, as well as Governor Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and governor of Imo State. Also in attendance will be the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Additionally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, and the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Magaji Tambuwal, along with the Senior Special Assistants to the President for both the Senate and the House, among others, are expected to be present.

The joint session will feature commemorative lectures on “25 Years of the National Assembly: Lessons & Opportunities.” Gbajabiamila, who served as the Speaker of the 9th House (2019-2023), will deliver a paper on ‘Reflections on the House’, while Senator David Mark, GCON, the President of the 6th & 7th Senate (2007-2015), will speak on ‘Reflections on the Senate.’
