At least five political parties are expected to participate in the forthcoming Saturday’s local government election in Katsina State.

They include: the Accord Party, Booth Party, African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other parties, numbering up to 86 however did not show interest for reasons only known to them.

The chairman of the Katsina State Electoral Commission, Lawal Faskari, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the headquarters of the agency along the Katsina Old Government House, Katsina.

Arrangements, according to Faskari, have been concluded to ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise scheduled to be held on February 15th, 2025.

He said the Commission has fixed the 14th and 15th of February 2025 to commence the distribution of non-sensitive and sensitive electoral materials.

Faskari while assuring the readiness of the commission to conduct a free, fair, and credible election across the 34 Local Government Areas of the State, reminded all the participating political parties of the need to wind off all campaign activities 24 hours before the election day following the provision of the law.

“The Commission had distributed non-sensitive election materials to all the 34 local government areas after recruiting and training over twenty thousand ad-hoc staff who will conduct the election on Saturday 15th February 2025, while sensitive election materials will be distributed on the eve of election day.

“At this point, on behalf of the Commission, I wish to appreciate the cooperation and support of the stakeholders, especially the security agencies who have been providing security to the Commission.

“The Commission equally wishes to remind all the participating political parties on the need to wind off all campaign activities 24 hours before the election day as in accordance with the provision of the law.

“Gentlemen of the press the Commission is very much set for the conduct of a free, fair, and credible election across the 34 Local Government Areas of the State as scheduled,” Faskari promised.
