Peter Obi Defends Labour Party Spokesman Kenneth Okonkwo Despite Criticism

In a recent development, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, has reiterated his support for party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, despite the latter’s criticism of his leadership.

Okonkwo, who transitioned from filmmaking to politics and joined the LP in 2022, openly criticized Obi’s handling of party affairs, accusing him of neglecting the internal crisis and failing to strengthen the party’s foundation.

In a letter posted on X, Okonkwo expressed frustration over Obi’s lack of leadership, stating, “Every member of the Labour Party is confused today as to the future of the Labour Party because of lack of leadership from PO over the party, and unfortunately, when they look up to me to tell them about PO’s standpoint, I sincerely have nothing to tell them because I don’t know myself.”

Despite the pointed criticism, Obi responded via his X handle on Monday, emphasizing that differing opinions do not make Okonkwo an enemy but rather a respected ally. Obi stated, “I want to, therefore, categorically and emphatically declare that Okonkwo remains my beloved brother and a trusted ally. I sternly caution against referring to him as a mole or making any negative remarks.”

Obi further highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and respecting differing views within the party, stressing that unity, respect, and civility must prevail. He encouraged supporters to stay resilient and focused on the party’s goals.
