The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the completion of 50 ongoing township road projects across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The governor is reported to have also released funds for the completion of the projects, which include asphalt overlays, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of selected roads across the state.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Ayoade Babalola, while speaking in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Babalola stated that the governor had approved the implementation of one of the critical components of his campaign promises to the people, focusing on enhanced road infrastructure.

According to him, Aiyedatiwa is committed to infrastructure development, noting that investment in road infrastructure is essential for building a robust transportation system, driving economic growth, and improving the quality of life.

He said, “It is no longer news that, in the last few months, contracts for the asphalt overlay of 60km of road projects across the state have commenced following their award in August 2024. This is nothing but a testament to the governor’s extraordinary commitment to the transformation of the state’s road infrastructure.”

Some of the roads, according to him, are in Akure, Ondo, Owo, Ikare Akoko, Okitipupa, Ilaje, and Idanre, among others.

“The allocation of N433 billion for capital expenditure in the 2025 budget, which represents 62.06 per cent of the total expenditure, is a positive move that demonstrates the governor’s determination to transform Ondo State into an infrastructural hub.

“Presently, there are massive construction activities on the following roads, with the intention to complete them in the next few months: the construction of a flyover and junction improvement at Onyeagbulem-Shagari/Irese Road along the Ilesha-Akure-Owo Expressway in Akure, the construction of the Oluwatuyi/Ijoka Dual Carriageway, and the dualisation of the Akure-Oda Road,” he stressed.

The governor’s aide added that the Ministry of Infrastructure is already planning the second phase of the Operation Zero Pothole Project, which will be executed through direct labour following the governor’s directive.
