VDM to EFCC: Donโ€™t Release My Photograph With Money Laundering Allegations

Controversial social media critic, Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced that he will be collaborating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but not without issuing stern warnings to the anti-graft agency over how his image and case are presented to the public.

In a video posted online, the outspoken activist revealed that his phone is currently in the custody of the EFCC, which has limited his access to his digital platforms.

โ€œMy phone is with the EFCC. As a matter of fact, I bought another phone when I came out because I have a feeling they will not give me back my phone. I was trying to log into my iCloud, but I canโ€™t access it again,โ€ he said.

โ€œBut that is by the way. EFCC, now that we want to start a friendship, I want to put this out there, let me tell you what will spoil the friendship: you people took a photo of me, if you ever release that photo and I see โ€˜money launderingโ€™ on it, that is where we will have a problem.โ€

VeryDarkMan emphasised that while he was willing to collaborate with the EFCC, he will not tolerate being falsely labelled a fraudster.

โ€œIf you release my picture on your page and I see โ€˜money launderingโ€™ on it, first of all, you people will prove money laundering to Nigerians. It might actually be the first case we will do in the open, all the details will be put onlineโ€.

โ€œIf you put โ€˜tax evasion,โ€™ no problem. But you see โ€˜money launderingโ€™? If you put it there, it only means two things: you will prove it to Nigerians, and it also goes to say that every other person you have accused is innocent, because I donโ€™t launder money. I am not a fraudster.โ€

The activist, known for his often confrontational commentary, expressed concerns that the EFCC may have accessed sensitive information on his confiscated phone, including evidence on multiple issues. He accused the agency of locking him out of his iCloud and WhatsApp accounts, stating that he has effectively lost control over vital data.

VeryDarkMan also took aim at GTBank, alleging misconduct and warning that he would expose their actions in due course.

โ€œAs for GTBank, I am coming. I will explain to them what you people did, and it is crazy. I will explain in full detail what you people did that day. I saw the fake images you people put online, different videos, and I was like, โ€˜What are these people doing?โ€™ Do these people think I would die there (in EFCC custody) and not come out?โ€

He claimed to have video evidence of the events that transpired, which is allegedly on the phone now in the EFCCโ€™s possession.

โ€œI have the evidence. The only thing that will save you (GTBank) is that maybe the EFCC deletes the video, because the video is there when everything happened. I have it. It is on my phone. And if the EFCC deletes it, it is also a problem for them.โ€

In a message to the EFCC, VeryDarkMan called for caution, urging the anti-graft agency to avoid actions that could damage its integrity or spark legal battles.

โ€œTo my future friends, if that photo comes out, we will go to court. The only difference is that you are big, you are the government, but I will stress you people. And it is going to dent your image and your integrity.

โ€œIt goes further to explain that most of the things you people post online about people are not true. So please, let us think about this through. I love you, EFCC. You love me too,โ€ VeryDarkMan concluded.
