Relatively known Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) gave the ruling Labour Party (LP) in Abia State a bloodied nose in Saturday’s council election in the state as it won 15 of the 17 local government areas.
Meanwhile, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) clinched the remaining two LGAs – Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa.
The results were announced by the Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Chima George, on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters, Umuahia.
“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on 5th September to carry out. It wasn’t an easy task but we went beyond and above to raise awareness about the election across the state”, he said.
The election was marred by voter aparthy although it was generally peaceful.
