Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Intelligence, Dasuki Galadanci, has affirmed that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) is significantly improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Speaking at the 2024 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association held at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), DIG Galadanci commended the Lagos State Government (LASG) for its innovative approach in implementing the ACJA. He highlighted that the state government takes a practical and forward-thinking approach to addressing issues, striving to enhance and streamline processes.
He stated, “The Lagos State Government has adopted a methodical approach based on lessons learned and the dissemination of best practices. With the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and Criminal Justice Law, the police are better equipped to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.”
DIG Galadanci emphasized that the ACJA aids the police in managing case files, ensuring transparency and integrity in their operations. He also noted that the act fosters collaboration between the police, judges, magistrates, and correctional services to address issues objectively and work together more effectively.
Highlighting the importance of the ACJA, he explained, “The essence of ACJA is to ensure the speedy trial of offenders and to guarantee that those who commit crimes are dealt with promptly.”
Regarding concerns about frivolous prosecutions, DIG Galadanci clarified, “No police officer would knowingly prosecute a case without merit. The authority to prosecute lies with the Attorney General, not the police.”
