All Set For Coronation of New Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade

History is unfolding today in the ancient city of Oyo as the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, takes place at Olivet Baptist High School.

Dignitaries from across Yorubaland and beyond have begun arriving for the grand occasion, scheduled to commence at 11 a.m.

Among the notable attendees already at the venue are the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola; the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams; Senator Yinus Akintunde representing Oyo Central; the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi. Also in attendance are the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde; the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal and many others.

The atmosphere in Oyo town is electric. Traditional drummers, cultural troupes, and well-wishers clad in vibrant attires fill the venue in celebration of the new Alaafin. The coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I signals a new chapter in the illustrious history of the Oyo Empire—an enduring symbol of Yoruba heritage and pride.

Security has been intensified, and traffic control is in full operation as thousands are expected to witness this historic event. The ceremony will feature traditional rites, cultural performances, and addresses from prominent figures—all celebrating the ascension of a monarch poised to uphold the legacy of leadership, cultural preservation, and development in Oyo.

Oba Owoade I’s ascension follows a meticulous selection process after the passing of the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who reigned for over five decades. Expectations are high for the new monarch, whose emergence has been met with widespread optimism and enthusiasm.
