Note that during the first term of Trump, Infantino enjoyed a cordial relationship with the businessman cum politician. Their cordial relationship was solidified after the USA won the right to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup under Trump’s first term in office.

Interestingly, Donald Trump lost his bid to continue his reign in 2020 when the incumbent president, Joe Biden, defeated him in the said year.

Less than two years before the World Cup, Trump returned to office after defeating Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party with 267 electoral votes (51.1 per cent) against Harris’ 224 electoral votes (47.4 per cent).

After the Republican Party’s presidential candidate addressed his supporters, saying, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate”.

In reaction to Donald Trump’s victory, the FIFA president wrote: “Congratulations, Mr President! We will have a great FIFA World Cup and a great FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America!
