The House of Representatives on Thursday approved for first reading a bill seeking an alteration to the 1999 Constitution to allow independent candidates to stand for elective offices in future elections. Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court has found the five suspects involved in the Offa robbery guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide. Justice Salman in about five hours of judgement she delivered in Ilorin on Thursday stated that these offences are punishable by death and therefore sentenced them to death by hanging. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has granted Nigeria $600,000 relief fund for efforts and reforms in support of the health and agricultural sectors.
