The 2024 Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has adjourned until Jan. 13, hearing of a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the victory of Gov. Monday Okpebholo. The petitioners, Dr Asue Ighodalo and the PDP, are challenging the declaration of Okpebholo as the winner of the Sept. 21 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to INEC, Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 291,667 votes against PDP’s Ighodalo, who got 247,274 votes. Mr Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, has stated that the recent loss of lives due to stampedes in rice distribution centers across the country was a result of “harsh economic” situations. The Federal Government is planning to install security cameras on parts of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highways. David Umahi, Works Minister, made this known during an inspection of Sections I and II of the project in Lagos, which is being handled by Hitech Construction Company Ltd. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has slashed the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol by 12 per cent to ₦899 per liter, from ₦1,020 per liter. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted reports claiming the revived Port Harcourt Refinery has been shut down, saying the facility is fully operational.
