#EndBadGovernance: Address The Real Issues Or Face Continued Protest – Falana Challenges Tinubu
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the demands of the peaceful protesters. In a statement on Sunday, Falana says the presidential speech delivered this morning falls short of addressing the key demand of the protesters: reversal of the policy of withdrawal of fuel subsidy. “If the government takes the fight against corruption to oil dealers and crude oil is processed in government-owned refineries, there will be no basis for fuel subsidy, which is induced by the importation of petroleum products. A positive response to the key demands of the youths to review…
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has condemned the attacks on #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters and journalists by security agencies. In a statement on Sunday, Soyinka expressed concern over the Federal Government’s continuing mismanagement of protests. The poet criticised the use of live bullets and tear gas by the Nigeria Police Force to manage civic protests, saying that such actions would lead to violence. He said, “I set my alarm clock for this morning to ensure that I did not miss President Bola Tinubu’s impatiently awaited address to the nation on the current unrest across the nation. “His outline of the government’s remedial…
Scoring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s National Broadcast On The Ongoing National Protests
By Mike Ozekhome I have carefully listened to and read President Tinubu’s national broadcast regarding the ongoing mass national protests. With all respect, the President’s speech appears vacuous, drudgery, and full of a litany of the government’s alleged interventions but is completely devoid of any concrete answers to the many itemized demands by the traumatized youthful protesters. Aside from this, he erroneously, as always, picked on imaginary opposition or political opponents who allegedly want to derail Nigeria. No, sir. These are not sponsored protests. They are a genuine outpouring of grief, frustration, anger, hunger, melancholy, hopelessness, haplessness, and joblessness by…
Protest organisers in Osun say they will meet to decide the next line of action, after President Bola Tinubu appealed to protesters to suspend their protest and come for dialogue. Mr Ajala Adetunji, the Osun Coordinator of Coalition of Concern Nigeria Citizens, the group spearheading the protest, said that the presidential appeal will be reviewed by all involved in the protest. “The protest is not a one-man show, especially as Osun’s case is concerned. “As far as the presidential address this morning is concerned, Mr President did not address any of our concerns. “The president was not specific on what…
#EndBadGovernance: I Won’t Allow Few People With Political Agenda Tear Nigeria Apart – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has warned that those with political agenda who are plotting to tear Nigeria apart will not succeed under his watch. In a nationwide broadcast, the President said “I speak to you today with a heavy heart and a sense of responsibility, aware of the turmoil and violent protests unleashed in some of our states. “Notably among the protesters were young Nigerians who desired a better and more progressive country where their dreams, hopes, and personal aspirations would be fulfilled”. “I speak to you today with a heavy heart and a sense of responsibility, aware of the turmoil…
President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7:00 am. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, made this known in a statement on Saturday titled ‘President Tinubu to address the nation.’ He urged television, radio, and other electronic media outlets to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast. The statement added, “The broadcast will be repeated on the network services of the NTA and the FRCN at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the…
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has once again shut down Quilox Club due to violations of environmental regulations. This action follows repeated warnings from the agency. Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, emphasised that the agency is committed to enforcing compliance and urged all businesses to adhere to environmental standards. Ajayi called on establishments to collaborate with the State government to foster a sustainable future for Lagos residents.
US Vice President Kamala Harris effectively secured the Democratic party’s presidential nomination Friday, confirming her remarkable rise to party standard bearer in November’s showdown against Republican Donald Trump. Harris was the sole candidate on the ballot for a five-day electronic vote of nearly 4,000 party convention delegates. She will be officially crowned at a Chicago convention later this month. “I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States,” Harris, 59, said on a phone-in to a party celebration after securing enough votes by the second day of the marathon vote. In the two weeks…
The Delta State Police Command has refuted earlier reports about the murder of Hon. Joan Mrakpor, also known as Ada-Anioma, a former member of the House of Representatives, the Delta State House of Assembly, and an ex-commissioner. Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe stated that the news of her murder is false. He confirmed that her abductors have not made any contact since they forcibly took her from her church premises and killed two of her police aides in Asaba, Delta State, last Tuesday. The police have clarified that there has been no confirmation of her death. They have…
Nigerian police fired tear gas on Thursday to break up several hundred protesters rallying against the cost of living in the northern city of Kano, an AFP correspondent at the scene said. In Kano, protesters tried to light bonfires outside the governor’s office and police responded with tear gas, driving many of the protesters back, an AFP reporter said. Protesters were also rallying in Lagos and the capital Abuja. AFP
