The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets has asked the Management of Kaduna Polytechnic, the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on government property to halt the allocation and sale of property belong to Kaduna polytechnic. The committee resolution followed the consideration of a petition to the House by some serving and retired staff of the Polytechnic. Property belonging to the Polytechnic all over Kaduna, including land, staff quarters and guest houses are being sold to staff and non staff of the polytechnic. The Federal Government, on Thursday, approved the disbursement of N12,911bn through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund. The amount represents the 2023 fund for one quarter, to be utilised in the third quarter of 2024. This is according to the 2020 BHCPF guideline, pending the review of the new guideline. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this at the 7th meeting of the BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee in Abuja. As dethronement of traditional rulers continue to generate controversies in Sokoto, the state Higher Court sitting, on Wednesday, issued an order restraining Governor Ahmed Aliyu from sacking two out 15 traditional rulers already removed by the government. The orders were sought separately by Alhaji Buhari Dahiru Tambuwal and Alhaji Abubakar Kassim, the District Heads of Tambuwal and Kebbe respectively. They were among the 15 traditional rulers earlier removed by the Sokoto State government, on the allegation of insurbodination and aiding insecurity in the state. The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Wednesday, ended their closed-door meeting with an agreement that all contentious issues would be amicably resolved to avert strike. The parties also agreed to kick-start a communication process to avert the planned industrial actions by the union. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, deferred hearing a suit seeking to remove the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, from office until July 5. The court, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, adjourned to allow the litigants to respond to a counter-affidavit the embattled APC Chairman filed to challenge the competence of the suit. The prosecution in the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele over alleged procurement fraud yesterday tendered his account statement before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) tendered Emefiele’s Zenith Bank account statement through the eighth prosecution witness Umar Abba Tilde. Tilde said the statement was one of three sets of documents demanded from the bank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Abia government has said it would pay salary arrears owed workers in the state civil service in tranches. The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Mike Akpara, made this known on Tuesday during a press conference in Umuahia. Akpara expressed the determination of the present administration to completely change the narrative of owing workers salaries because “a worker deserves his wages.” According to him, the present administration inherited a debt of N16.5 billion in salary arrears owed workers in state-owned institutions of learning.
