A Federal High Court on Thursday, ruled that it has jurisdiction to hear the human rights violation case filed by the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and senior councillor, Aminu Dan’agundi. Justice A M Liman, of a Federal High Court in Kano, said the court has jurisdiction to hear and determine the case instituted by Dan’agundi, against the implementation of Kano Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024. Dan’agundi,(Sarkin Dawaki Babba), through his counsel, Ibrahim Aliyu-Nasarawa, filed a motion exparte dated May 23. The Police Command in Kano State has banned Durbar activities during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in the state. In a statement issued on Thursday by Mr Usaini Gumel, the state commissioner of police, the police command stated that the ban became necessary to sustain peace in conjunction with all the relevant security stakeholders. “In furtherance, a ban on all contending parties has been placed, restraining both from conducting Durbar activities for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations,” Gumel said. The qualifying draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 4, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The 48 competing teams will be split into 12 groups of four, with the top two in each group reaching the finals in Morocco. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday abandoned its earlier request for a change in the date for arraignment of former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, from June 13 without informing the defendant’s lawyers. A new date, Thursday, June 27, had been reportedly fixed for hearing in the alleged money laundering case instituted by EFCC against Bello, at the instance of the anti-graft agency’s lawyers. The presidential candidate of Labour Party in 2023, Peter Obi, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to focus on investigating critical issues such as alleged budget padding, fuel subsidy payments and not Bobrisky.
