Apple on Monday will attempt to persuade doubters on its AI strategy after rivals raced ahead in adopting artificial intelligence. AI and perhaps even a partnership with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI will likely be a driving theme at the kickoff of Apple’s WWDC developers’ conference in Silicon Valley, according to analysts. The conference is Apple’s annual rendezvous for developers who create apps for iPads, Macs and iPhones — and CEO Tim Cook will work hard to convince his audience that the company is a major AI player. While Apple has been quietly including AI features in its hardware for years, it has…

In the suit number FHC/L/CS/353/2024 filed last Friday at the Federal High Court, Lagos, SERAP is asking the court to “direct and compel the Tinubu government to publish the loan agreements obtained…

Governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum have rejected the proposed N60,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers. In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs for NGF, Halimah Salihu Ahmed, the governors said the proposed minimum wage is too high and not sustainable. NGF expressed concerns that if the N60,000 minimum wage is adopted, many states would allocate their entire Federal Account Allocation Committee funds to salaries, leaving no resources for development projects. The statement read in part, “The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is in agreement that a new minimum wage is due.…
More infrastructure and urban renewal projects are coming, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said yesterday. He spoke while inaugurating roads B6, B12, and Circle Road in the Central Area District of Abuja. President Tinubu restated his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and urban renewal. He described it as “a cornerstone of our vision for a more prosperous and much more connected Nigeria”. In the heart of Abuja, Road B6 (Constitution Avenue) and Road B12 (Independence Avenue) connect the three-arms zone, cultural and diplomatic areas, ministries, state liaison offices and corporate and commercial offices. The President believes the projects will reduce traffic…
By Tony Egbulefu Nigeria’s premier anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) motivates the anti-corruption war of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government. With the corruption fight as a pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the government in the past one year has been remarkable as one that chose to do away with media hype and rhetorics in its anti-corruption programme, preferring rather that the outcomes bear the testimonies. The federal government’s prioritisation of the fight against corruption gives evidence to President Tinubu’s good understanding of the damage corruption has inflicted on the health…
Wahab Sunmonu There’s an ominous, cliffhanging silence as Nigerians watch with bated breath, the face-off between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. Bello has blatantly refused to appear before the commission, which had accused him of questionable financial dealings that range from the obnoxious to the outlandish. What was supposed to be a routine visit has become a cat-and-mouse chase, where only one winner would emerge. And it would not be Bello. Sometime in April, operatives of the EFCC stormed Bello’s Abuja residence Gestapo-style to arrest him. What followed was nothing…
President Bola Tinubu has met the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and his Budget and Economic Planning colleague, Senator Atiku Bagudu, at the State House, presumably over ongoing minimum wage talks. President Tinubu instructed the minister of finance, Edun, on Tuesday, June 6, to work up agreeable figures that would be realistic and acceptable to all the Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage representatives and present a report to him within two days.
