The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from making allocations to the Rivers State Government until a ‘lawful’ appropriation Act is passed by a validly constituted State House of Assembly. This decision was made by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik in response to a suit filed by the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule. Justice Abdulmalik held that the decision by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the Rivers State’s 2024 Appropriation Bill to a four-member Assembly, that was not properly constituted, should not be allowed to stand. The court order essentially…

The Abia State Government has given reason it sacked the vice chancellor of the state-owned Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, revealing that his sack was based on the outcome of a Visitation Panel instituted by the government on the university at the inception of the Governor Alex Otti’s administration. The state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who dropped this hint in Umuahia said the government has earlier assured Nigerians during the submission of the panel’s report that it would implement without hesitation the recommendations of the panel’s report. The commissioner explained that the…

Vice President Kamala Harris might have just sealed her fate in Pennsylvania — just not in the way she intended. After publicly agreeing with a heckler accusing Israel of genocide, the vice president signaled a desperate attempt to placate Arab American voters in a state where discontent with Democrats’ support of Israel has been growing and is likely irreversible. And in doing so, Harris continued to alienate another key demographic: Jewish voters. And it’s in Pennsylvania where she may pay the ultimate price. At a campaign event in Wisconsin, a heckler yelled at Harris about Israel’s alleged war crimes, and…
Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday says his predecessor, Godwin Emefiele used a whole lot of unorthodox methods to grow Nigeria’s economy. While identifying investor confidence as a major challenge he faced when he assumed office, Cardoso said the CBN under his leadership will use orthodox methods and will do everything it takes to manage inflation. “Really…
The Federal Government has bemoaned non-sharing of classified information and intelligence among law enforcement agencies, saying such development could hinder efforts to reduce crime. It, however, cautioned all the security agencies against the approach, warning that the country could not afford to continue employing such a strategy with the present insecurity affecting many parts of the country. Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, handed down this warning at a three-day workshop in Abuja on Tuesday. The workshop is aimed at fostering inter-agency collaboration on information sharing among law enforcement agencies. Daily Trust reports that there have been clashes among different…
Dr. Bukola Saraki, former President of the Senate, has called for stricter measures to protect electricity infrastructure in Nigeria. The former Kwara State governor, while sympathising with millions of businesses that have been affected by the power outage in parts of northern Nigeria, said the development has led to severe hardship for families and businesses as a result of economic losses, calling on the government to evolve measures to protect power facilities from vandals. Also, Dr Saraki, while speaking through his X handle, called for greater investment and reforms in the electricity sector in order to ensure steady power supply.…
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has suspended former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, amid allegations of anti-party activities. In a resolution submitted to the APC National Secretariat and addressed to National Chairman Dr Umar Ganduje, the party accused Aregbesola, a former Osun governor, of creating divisions by establishing a splinter faction. The Osun APC claims that Aregbesola’s actions undermine party cohesion and unity, particularly during a critical period in the state’s political landscape. Party leaders have expressed concerns that his influence over certain groups has exacerbated internal discord, prompting this decisive action to address perceived disloyalty.
