NNPCL spokesman, Olufemi Soneye, has confirmed that the helicopter operated by East Winds Aviation which crashed was engaged by the petroleum company. The  ill-fated helicopter crashed in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Thursday, and had personnel of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) onboard.  The crash at 11:22 a.m. along the waterways in Port Harcourt occurred when the helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 with registration 5NBQG and operated by East Wind Aviation, took off from Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) to the FPSO – NUIMS ANTAN oil rig. According to a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday, Nigerians across nine states spent a total of N312.27 billion on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas. The 2024 Nigeria Residential Energy Demand-Side Survey provided an updated view of Nigeria’s energy consumption patterns, highlighting the reliance on LPG, firewood, charcoal, and other energy sources for cooking and heating. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has started supplying Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, to some oil marketers directly without recourse to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
