The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, has directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to investigate the tanker explosion that claimed the lives of over 100 people in Jigawa State. On the least, 105 people have been confirmed dead while more than 50 others are injured after a petrol tanker exploded in Majiya town, in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Shiisu Adam, confirmed the figure to an online medium on Wednesday. The Federal Government has denied reported plan to increase or impose more taxes on Nigerians. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has raised the alarm that the admission of severally malnourished children in the northeast part of the country, supported by the ICRC, has seen an increase following the severe food insecurity in the country. The ICRC, in a statement on Tuesday raised the alarm noting that the admission has increased by 24 percent between the third quarters of 2023 and 2024. The 24 percent increase indicates both severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with and without medical complications treated in ICRC-supported facilities. Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), has cautioned that the Nigerian public will lose confidence in the judiciary if judges continue to delay case execution. She made this statement during the third annual National Judicial Council (NJC) conference on judges’ performance evaluation in Abuja on Tuesday.
