Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed and raided two popular nightclubs and lounges in Akure, Ondo State, on Saturday. Following the operation, the anti-graft agency reportedly arrested 50 suspected internet fraudsters, including a groom-to-be who was celebrating his bachelor’s eve at one of the clubs with his friends. The personnel, who stormed the highbrow Alagbaka axis of the Akure metropolis in different cars around 1:00 a.m., shot sporadically into the air. Former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki has hailed the Supreme Court judgement, which overturned the Federal High Court’s 2018 decision regarding an alleged N3.5 billion fraud case against Melrose General Services Limited. Akin Osuntokun, Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 general elections, is set to dump the Labour Party (LP) in a matter of days. Credible sources said Osuntokun, a former media aide to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is in talks to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his original party before defecting to the LP in August 2022. Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, revealed yesterday that no fewer than 10 suspects were in custody over the recent killing five soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Aba, Abia State. Otti made this known during a visit to the Forward Operation Base (FOB) of the 144 Battalion in Ngwa High School, Osisioma Local Government Area of the state. MultiChoice Nigeria, the company behind DSTV and GoTv, has said it will appeal Friday’s ruling of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja, which awarded a N150m fine against it for challenging the court’s jurisdiction. Earlier on Friday, the tribunal had fined the company the sum of N150m for disobeying its orders, which restrained the pay-TV company from increasing its monthly subscription pending the determination of the suit brought before it by an Abuja-based lawyer, Festus Onifade. An autopsy report has confirmed that 4-year-old Miguel Ovoke, a student at Brickhall School, Abuja died after choking on a piece of meat in his homemade lunch. The tragic incident occurred on April 24, 2024, during the school’s lunch break.
