West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Nigeria says it would gradually eliminate the use of papers in the conduct of its examinations. Dr Amos Dangut, Head of National Office, disclosed this on Thursday after monitoring the conduct of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Abeokuta. The presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has visited former military rulers, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, the Niger state capital. Atiku released photos of the visit in a post via his X handle on Wednesday. The former Vice-President said he visited the former military heads of state at their residences to pay them a “Salah homage.” He stated, “Today, I paid Sallah homage to former Heads of State Gen. The Police yesterday retained control of the 23 local government secretariats in Rivers State. It was to prevent a further escalation of violence that broke out on Tuesday over the tenure of chairmen and councillors. The caretaker chairmen appointed and inaugurated by Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara and protesting council helmsmen insisting on tenure extension were denied access to the offices. The death toll from Tuesday’s violence rose to three yesterday with the reported death of an ex-student leader during the mayhem. Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of lbadanland. The Governor gave the approval in a memo dated June 14, 2024, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 19 (Cap 28) Law of Oyo State 2000 as amended. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the deadline for the sale of forms for its 2024 congresses from June 17 to June 28. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
