A former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose on Monday expressed concern over the division and in-fighting in the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), appealing to members to sheath their swords and ensure that the party survives and remain functional. The Ondo State Lounge and Club Owners Association has urged the state and federal governments to investigate a recent EFCC raid on a nightclub and hotel in Akure, where about 127 youths were arrested for suspected internet fraud. During the early morning raid on June 8, 2024, EFCC operatives allegedly stormed the venues in a forceful manner, causing significant property damage and distress to guests, including newlyweds. The House of Representatives has proposed to make a single tenure of six years for presidents and governors and also moved to create the office of two vice presidents from the Southern and Northern parts of Nigeria. The Federal Government has threatened to take legal actions against hospitals who decline to treat patients rushed for emergency treatment. The warning was delivered on Sunday at the “Unlock Grants Award” event in Abuja by Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs. Earlier this year, the Federal Ministry of Health was given a mandate by the House of Representatives to take firm action against hospitals and healthcare facilities that refus to treat accident or gunshot victims without first obtaining a police report. Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang has lifted the curfew imposed on Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State in the wake of the violent attacks on communities by suspected gunmen. More expenses await African nationals seeking visas to enter the European Union as the EU plans to increase visa fees starting Tuesday, according to Schengen visa statistics released on Saturday. The report stated that starting from Tuesday; African nationals would pay €90 instead of €80 for a Schengen visa application The report stated that the EU had earned €3.4m from rejected Schengen visa applications submitted by Nigerian citizens. The foreign exchange (forex) volatility in the country has taken a huge toll on the MTN Nigeria and Airtel Africa’s operations as both service providers posted huge losses after tax. A political and civil rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has called for the scrapping of the Nigerian Senate to reduce the cost of governance.
