Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the release of 56 inmates from various correctional facilities across the state. In addition, the governor commuted the sentence of one inmate on death row to life imprisonment and granted pardon to another inmate. The approvals, based on the recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, were signed by Sanwo-Olu on June 25, 2024. The Police Service Commission has denied reports that it is reviewing the list of successful candidates for the 2022 constable recruitment exercise. The commission also stated that it has never advised candidates to print any updated invitation slips or proceed to the Police Training Colleges. The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has announced a 3.75% increase in Australia’s minimum and award wages. This adjustment will raise the national minimum wage to $24.10 per hour, equating to $915.91 per week for a full-time, 38-hour working week. This increase translates to an additional $33 per week for those earning the minimum wage, impacting approximately 2.6 million workers, which is about 20.7% of the national workforce. Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has challenged the police to take action on the suspect behind the attempted detonation of explosive device in Port Harcourt during the protester for elongation of former chairmen of local government councils. The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to suspend the implementation of the Samoa Agreement over the alleged Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender clause. This is as the legislative chamber directed its Committee on National Planning to investigate the agreement within four weeks and report back for further legislative action. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has proposed an aggregate expenditure of N1.911 trillion for the 2024 budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope”. The Managing Director of NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, presented the budget before the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC in Abuja on Tuesday. He said that the primary objective in preparing the budget was to achieve the sustainable economic development for which the commission was founded.
