The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal by a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, seeking to quash the drug trafficking charge filed against him. In a judgement, a three-member panel of the appellate court dismissed Kyari’s appeal for lacking in merit. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied proposing to pay a minimum wage of N80,000 to workers in the state and local government areas. The denial came following reports circulating online that the governor had promised to pay the said sum. The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin presided over by Justice Umar Zikir has fixed July 30, 2024, for the proper arraignment of 14 persons accused of killing Oba Aremu Olusegun Cole, the Onikoro of Koro town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State in February 2024. The accused persons were also alleged to have kidnapped the wife of the late retired senior military officer, Olori Iyabo Aremu Cole, and two others during an attack. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved the sale of foreign exchange (FX) to eligible Bureau de Change (BDC) operators at 1,450 naira to a dollar. The apex bank said the sum of $20,000 is to be sold to each BDC at the rate of N1,450/$ (representing the lower band of the trading rate at NAFEM in the previous trading day). President Tinubu has officially approved a minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and committed to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years. During a meeting with leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu also pledged to support the private sector and state governments in implementing this wage.
