A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has reserved till a later date its ruling on a move by General Hydrocarbons Limited (GHL) seeking to vacate the order freezing its assets, accounts and related entities. Through its counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Victor Ogude, First Bank of Nigeria Limited opposed the move and asked Justice Deinde Dipeolu to uphold his order freezing the assets, pending the outcome of a substantive suit aimed at recovering a loan of $225.8 million extended to the oil company. Power supply has been disrupted to some parts of the Presidential Villa, Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, and Mabushi, following vandalism of the 132kV transmission line and carting away of underground cable supplying bulk electricity to the Central Area transmission substation in Katampe. The vandals also carted away a 40-meter 1x500mm XLPE conductor. Ndidi Mbah, Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, revealed in a statement on Friday. The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has ruled that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party. A three-member panel of the appellate court, in a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Hamma Barka, upheld its earlier judgment of November 13, 2024, which recognises Abure as National Chairman. The court confirmed that this decision has not been overturned by any other court. Three Nigerians in the US have been sentenced for their involvement in a fraud scheme that frequently targeted elderly victims, according to authorities. Fatai Okunola, 38, of Kalamazoo, received a prison sentence of just over 10 years for his role in the conspiracy and was ordered to pay more than $730,000 in restitution. The National Assembly has raised the revenue target for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) following revelations by Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, that it had surpassed its 2024 revenue collection target, exceeding the ₦19.4 trillion target set in the 2024 Appropriation Act. Gunshots disrupted the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which began hearing on Wednesday in Benin City, the state capital. Hoodlums were also reportedly seen outside the turbo-charged venue of the tribunal where gunshots rent the air, leaving people to scamper for safety. The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the dissolution of the State Executive Council, with immediate effect. This was revealed on Wednesday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan. According to the statement, the governor, however, exempted two members of the cabinet from the dissolution “due to the critical nature of their duties”.
