An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafiu Bawah, has taken his life by hanging himself in Niger State. The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. According to the Command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Kontagora. It is, however, unclear the motive behind the suicide. The police authorities said the officer’s body was removed from the scene and later released to the family for burial. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to prosecute contractors who received over N167bn from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies for projects that were never executed.
