US regulators imposed fines totalling almost $393 million on more than two dozen financial firms after a probe found they had failed to retain electronic communications as required by federal law. Obasanjo last week accused the lawmakers of fixing their salaries and allowances amid the biting economic hardship in Nigeria. A documentary by the company on Wednesday, said in the past week, 19 illegal pipeline connections and 63 illegal refineries were uncovered in the Niger Delta. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, announced President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the implementation of a Zero Percent Duty Rate (0%) and Value Added Tax (VAT) exemption on selected basic food items.  Customs spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada said in a statement said the presidential approval was communicated through the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olawale Edun. The European Union has announced it will donate 215,000 doses of vaccines to Africa in a significant move to combat the ongoing Mpox outbreak on the continent. According to a statement on Wednesday, EU said the donation includes 175,420 doses of the Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic Mpox vaccine, with an additional 40,000 doses contributed directly by the pharmaceutical company Bavarian Nordic. The MVA-BN vaccine, a non-replicating smallpox vaccine, is the only Mpox vaccine approved in the EU and is authorised for use in individuals aged 18 and older.
