Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories annexed by his country is a prerequisite for any settlement of the ongoing war. Putin said this during a visit to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow ahead of the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland at the weekend. If Ukraine also renounces membership of NATO, Russia would be prepared to cease fire and enter negotiations immediately. President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja, the nation’s capital, for Lagos State on Friday, ahead of Eid-el-Kabir. The President will observe Eid-el-Kabir in Lagos, where he will also spend the Sallah holidays. A statement by the presidential spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, explained that “the President will mark the occasion in prayers and reflection on advancing the transformation of Nigeria in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Inspector – General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun on Friday cautioned officers soliciting for undeserved promotion. He said most of them used to go through highly place personalities to make the demand. Egbetokun said henceforth any officer found wanting will be penalised. The IGP gave the warning while decorating newly promoted top officers of the Police Force held in Abuja. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has warned federal and state-owned tertiary institutions against supplying inaccurate and incomplete data for the student loan scheme. It urged tertiary institutions to ensure that the information they supply is not only complete but also accurate. The agency said it would publish on June 24 the full list of institutions that have submitted their complete student data, as requested by the agency for upload onto the agency’s Student Verification System (SVS). The Federal Government says it has commenced the audit of inmates across its 256 Custodial Centres in the country, with a view to decongesting the facilities. Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this after undertaking an inspection of the ongoing 3,000-capacity Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Janguza, Kano State as well as the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja. The US Supreme Court on Thursday rejected an attempt by a California man to trademark the suggestive phrase “Trump too small.” The court, in a unanimous opinion, ruled that the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) had correctly turned down the request to trademark the slogan about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. A Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Thursday, June 13, that it will hear on June 26 the suit seeking to sack the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje along with the objection raised against the competence of the suit.
