A fully loaded high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle overturned inside the dedicated BRT lane at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, resulting in injuries to 10 passengers. According to an update from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred shortly after the bus had departed from the BRT park at Iyana Ipaja. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has confirmed the death of four persons during an accident in Abeokuta, Ogun State. A statement issued by the public relations officer of the government-owned agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi in Abeokuta, said the sad incident occurred when a truck rammed into the motorcycles and their passengers. While four persons were declared dead in the accident, one person was said to have sustained injury. He attributed the cause of the accident to a mechanical fault which resulted in a brake failure. As part of efforts to decongest correctional facilities in the state, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaete Obot, has ordered the release of 44 inmates, including two females, across the correctional facilities in the three senatorial districts of the state. Six of the inmates regained freedom in Ikot Abasi centre, five in Eket custodial centre, 11 were freed in Ikot Ekpene centre while 24 inmates, including two females, were pardoned in Uyo custodial centre. Succour is on the way for residents and motorists plying the ever busy Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway as the contracting firm, Craneburg, has moved to site to begin the reconstruction of the 81km road which has been abandoned and in a state of disrepair for years. A loaded gas tanker heading toward Gbagada along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos State, on Wednesday, overturned at Anthony Oke. The incident which happened on Wednesday left the driver of the truck injured, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said.
