An elderstatesman and community leader in Benue State, Terry Waya has urged stakeholders in the state to cooperate with the federal government in finding lasting solution to the crisis in the state.

Gunmen killed around 200 villagers in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, on the night of Friday, June 13, 2025, an incident which drew the attention of the global community, including Pope Leo.

President Bola Tinubu will also visit the state on Wednesday as part of renewed efforts to foster peace and address the persistent conflict affecting communities in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Waya also appealed to the people of the state to exercise restraint and refrain from blame game, saying this is time to unite and trust the process of resolution.

He said President Tinubu’s administration is working assiduously to address the long-standing challenges.

He wrote “I appeal to all parties involved in the Benue crisis to exercise restraint and refrain from the blame game. This is a time for unity, dialogue, and trust in the process of resolution”.

“The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is actively working to address this long-standing issue. While the challenges are deep-rooted, they are not insurmountable”.

“What is needed now is patience, cooperation, and a commitment to peace from all stakeholders. Let us give the government the necessary support and time to implement lasting solutions for the benefit of all affected communities”.
