    Body Of Former Senate President Wayas Returns To Nigeria After Three Years

    The body of the late Senate President, Joseph Wayas, has arrived in Nigeria after about three years since his death.

    Wayas, who was the Senate President between October 1, 1979 and December 31, 1983, died in a London hospital on November 30, 2021, at the age of 80 after a protracted illness.

    His first wife died 12 days after but while his wife had since been buried, the revered politician’s remains had remained in a morgue in London, a development that had sparked controversies.

    The remains of the former Senate president were on board from Heathrow Airport London in the United Kingdom via British Airways 083 and arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at 4:40 am (Local time).

    His body was received by Jarigbe Agom, Peter Akpanke, family, kinsmen and other stakeholders received and deposited his remains in the Morgue at the National Hospital, Abuja.

    Speaking to journalists at the venue, Jarigbe thanked the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu for facilitating the repatriation of the late former Senate President, from London, adding that he is confident that the governor will give the former elder statesman a befitting burial.

    The lawmaker thanked the leadership of the stakeholders for their collaborative effort and support.

    Dignitaries have since then proceeded to sign the condolence register at the deceased’s Asokoro residence in Abuja.

    Other stakeholders and leaders in attendance include; Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, Jonny Agim, SAN, and Hon. Cletus Obun amongst others.
