Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progress Congress (APC) in Osogbo, Osun State, has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly come up with and implement strategies in order to save Nigerians from hardship and hunger.

Oyintiloye, through a press statement on Sunday, highlighted the suffering that many Nigerians are currently enduring, noting that the situation makes it imperative for the President to act quickly and implement strategies that provide immediate relief.

Although the lawmaker expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to ease the suffering of the masses, he suggested that faster approaches should be adopted, particularly given the economic difficulties caused by rising fuel prices, which have made access to necessities more challenging.

“There is no doubt that the president is doing everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the masses, but a faster approach must be considered.

“The president should ensure that every bureaucratic bottleneck delaying the swift implementation of policies that would benefit the masses is removed. The economic hardship the people are currently facing is becoming unbearable, and the President must act swiftly,” Oyintiloye said.

He also expressed concern about the non-implementation of the president’s directive to suspend customs duties and taxes on imported food items two months after the initiative was announced.

The former lawmaker stressed that since the initiative was part of measures to combat rising food inflation, its implementation should not be delayed.

Oyintiloye recalled that on 7th August, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, assured the public that the policy would be implemented the following week once the guidelines were finalised.

He urged those drafting the guidelines to complete the process without further delay, expressing hope that the initiative, when implemented, would lower food prices without affecting local production.

He also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the President, noting that while some of the policies might seem painful in the short term, they would bring great benefits in the long run.
