Ed Sheeran Criticizes Artists For Pretending Not To Care About Success

Popular British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has shared his honest thoughts on the motivations and desires that drive artists to create music.

In an interview on “Therapuss With Jake Shane,” Sheeran dismissed the idea that some artists are solely driven by passion and don’t care about success.

Sheeran emphasised that every artist wants their work to be recognised and appreciated, and that the desire for success and fame is a natural part of the music industry.

He argued that if artists didn’t care about what people think, they wouldn’t release their music or seek out record deals.

Sheeran encouraged a more open and honest conversation about the motivations and desires that drive creativity.

The singer-songwriter also stressed on the importance of recognition and acclaim in the music industry, noting that these factors can drive artists to push themselves and create their best work.

He said: “I don’t believe any artist that says they don’t, otherwise, you wouldn’t release music because you’d be like, ‘If I don’t care what people think, then why would I even put it out?’ You’d just sort of make the music and be like, ‘Well, that’s made me feel good.’

“All artists, we want to be loved. That’s why we are on stage. And that’s why you sign to a record company, to go, ‘I would like people to hear the music that I’m making.’ I don’t really subscribe to this whole, like, not caring thing. That’s all a kind of ruse, because it sounds cool to say but every artist wants people to like their music.

“It really pisses me off when people are like, ‘Oh I don’t care how it does.’ I’m like, ‘F*cking shut up! You do! Everyone does.’ Anyone in the pop game definitely cares.”

In addition to his comments on the music industry, Sheeran also discussed his own career and the importance of taking risks and trying new things.

He noted that he is always looking for ways to challenge himself and grow as an artist, and that this mindset has helped him to achieve success and stay relevant in the industry.
