Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, one time player of Arsenal, has reportedly been apprehended for allegedly trying to smuggle cannabis worth ₦1.2 billion.
Emmanuel-Thomas, 33, who currently plies his trade for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship was said to be arrested on Wednesday.
According to Sky News, he was detained by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) during an operation supported by Police Scotland.
The forward was caught with 60kg of cannabis concealed in two suitcases that arrived on a flight from Bangkok.
Emmanuel-Thomas, who was at Arsenal from the age of 8 spent most of his times playing for the Gunners reserves before he was loaned to Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers and Cardiff City respectively.
He has played for 15 clubs in total including Ipswich Town, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Livingston and Aberdeen – and represented England at youth level (U-17 and U-19 respectively).
He registered 78 goals in 384 appearances in his club career spanning 16 years – and has played 6 times
for Greenock Morton this season without scoring a goal.
