Fintiri, Deputy Cast Votes In Adamawa Council Election

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta voted on Saturday afternoon in the council election in the State.

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) is conducting election to elect chairmen and councillors for the 21 local government areas of the state.

The Governor voted at his Kirshiga Ward 004 polling unit in his home town, Madagali, a northern Adamawa town close to the Adamawa-Borno interstate boundary.

Fintiri told newsmen after voting that he was okay with the conduct of the election up to that time.

In the election, which started late in the morning across most polling units, Kaletapwa, voted in her own birth zone, Numan, a major town 70 kilometres south of the capital city, Yola.

Farauta, after giving her vote at her Fada 001 Ward 3 polling unit in Numan, said she was satisfied by the peaceful conduct of everyone involved in the election process.

Speaking to journalists, she said: “The election is peaceful. People are exercising their franchise without hindrance. I’m glad that people are aware there is need for them to vote, because this election produces leaders close to them.”

She expressed optimism the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be victorious in the election across the State because of the many development projects of the PDP-led state government.

The Nation reports that 12 political parties are presenting candidates for the election; but the 12 excludes leading opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) which had earlier expressed reservation about the likelihood of the election being free and fair.
