Nigerian doctor and visual artist, Dr. Fola David, has set a new world record for creating the largest painting by an individual.

The drawing “Unity in Diversity” showcases the diverse ethnic groups of Nigeria through their unique attire, languages, culture, and artistic expressions.

On Friday, after four days of effort, David surpassed the previous record of 629.98 square metres set by India’s Ravi Soni and remains resolute in achieving his ultimate goal of creating a 1000-square-metre artwork.

On Friday, he took to Instagram and wrote: “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 p.m., we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not yet done!

“The goal is to get over 1000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Let’s Go!”

The location has transformed into a hub for art enthusiasts and supporters who are gathering to champion Dr. Fola David as he creates history. Notable figures include former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former world record holder Hilda Bacci.

Additionally, Professor Olufemi Fasanmade, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Lagos, and other officials visited to confer an award on Fola David, recognising his contributions to the promotion of art as an alumnus of the school.
