UK’s Manchester Airport To Resume Operations After Power Outage

Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom is set to resume operations and expects flights to restart after a power outage caused significant disruption at Terminals 1 and 2 earlier on Sunday.

The cause of the power outage, which occurred on Sunday, remains unclear. However, Manchester Airport issued a statement indicating that it is collaborating with airlines to reschedule cancelled flights over the next few days.

They assured passengers that flights scheduled for Monday would proceed as planned and would not be affected.

Earlier notices on social media platform X advised passengers flying from Terminal 3 to arrive at the airport as usual, unless instructed otherwise by their airline.

Sky News first reported the disruption, noting that the power supply issue impacted the airport and several other nearby buildings.

While power has since been restored, services at the airport are expected to experience residual effects throughout the day.

Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, apologized for the inconvenience caused, stating, “About 20% of our flights have been cancelled so far, and approximately 40% have operated. There’s still 40% to go. I think it’s inevitable that some of those flights won’t take off which is why it’s so important that passengers talk to their airlines about their flights.”

He added optimistically, “Tomorrow we are very much hoping to run an entirely scheduled operation.”
