In a swift operation, officers from the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended an 18-year-old suspect on Friday, June 7, for allegedly stealing LED road stud lights from the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge. The suspect, Mubarak Abdullahi, a resident of Makoko, was found with ten LED road stud lights, which are installed to enhance road visibility. Abdullahi was reportedly caught in the act by RRS operatives patrolling the bridge. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has threatened to embark on disconnection of electricity supply to its indebted customers across the South-East geopolitical zone. A statement on Friday, signed by the management and issued by its Media and Communications Manager, Emeka Ezeh, indicated that the exercise would commence on June 10, adding that the move became necessary considering the huge unpaid electricity bills and accrued arrears. The Nigerian presidency has denied reports that the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000 to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill seeking to establish a new state in the southeastern region known as Orlu State. The bill which passed first reading was sponsored by Hon. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North South Federal Constituency of Imo State, along with other co-sponsoring lawmakers. According to the draft bill, the creation of Orlu State will amend the 1999 Constitution, increasing the number of states in Nigeria from 36 to 37.
